The Next Three Days and Shawshank Redemption

            Steven Kings’ seven times nominated, Shawshank Redemption focuses on Andy a man convicted of killing his wife and her lover. While in The Next Three Days , Laura is convicted of killing her boss. Both persons share the possibility that they are innocent. Also they are both given extreme punishments, Andy ends up with two life sentences, Laura in prison. Both characters suffer harshly, and seem to change. Andy watches an inmate die, from police brutality, Laura’s relationship with her son diminishes.

 In both films the audience is not sure of their innocence. In Andy’s case, we are not sure if he is innocent because of his strange character, with Laura it is the same, she even asks her husband if he ever thought she might be guilty. Both characters display a cold attitude, after being contained, only adding to the suspicion of whether or not they are guilty.  When it comes down to the escape process, this is important in both films. In The Next Three Days, Laura’s husband meets with a man who has escaped numerous times, and helps him devise a sure fire plan, but he must be able to carry the persona of a criminal in order to accomplish it. In  Shawshank Redemption Andy goes to Red, and Red unwittingly gives him the contraband to complete his thought out plan of escape, a rock hammer. A difference between the two is that it is Laura’s husbands’ job to ensure the plans’ success; she even attempts suicide as they are about to fore go picking up their son. In Andy’s case, he is responsible for his successful escape. He was able to leave and stay concealed, while Laura and her husband were chased by the cops,they still managed to escape. This is also a major difference, because Andy, was hopeful he took joy in finding freedom. He was able to find a classical record, while in the warden’s office, he locks himself in the room and plays the record for all the inmates to enjoy as well. While Laura seems to just accept that she will never again be happy, as she makes her first attempt at suicide in prison.

            The audience is given the answers to both characters question of innonce at the end of the films. In Laura’s situation, she claimed that a homeless woman bumped into her jacket, even ripping off one of her buttons, explaining the blood stain. We see two detectives who have become intrigued with this story, as one plays the scenario out in his head he then tries searching for the button in a gutter. We see the button, but he fails to look hard enough, the audience has just been notified of Laura’s innocence. With Andy, he finally confesses to Red that he did not kill his wife, but that his lack of personality drove her away, leading to the affair, leading to her death. So ultimately Andy takes the blame, but is innocent.

Movie Review: Due Date and Planes , Trains and automobiles

            Right away in both Due Date and Planes, Trains and automobiles, we see all characters end up sitting next to each other on the plane.  Neal grows tired of Del and offers the both should part ways. In Due Date Peter leaves Ethan while Ethan does not know. In Due date Ethan falls asleep at the wheel almost killing both himself and Peter. In Plains Trains and Automobiles, the same instance occurs when Del drives. Del ends up getting their car impounded as well as Ethan. The difference here is that Del was clocked over the speed limit by the cop. Ethan was in possession of marijuana going through a check station. Ethan as well as Dell find alternate ways of continuing the journey home. In Due Date Ethan simply steels the semi Peter is being held in. And in Planes, Trains, and automobiles Del finds them alternate transportation in the back of a semi. In Due Date Peter finally accepts Ethan as part of his life. And keeps in touch regularly we see this happen when: Ethan calls Peter before his show even begins. In Planes, Trains, and automobiles Del is accepted as a guest for thanksgiving.

Movie Review : Harry Potter and The Deathly HaSllows, and Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back

            At the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back the Dark Lord Sith sends robots to find Luke Sywalker, just as in Harry Potter, Lord Voldemort sends death eaters in search of Harry Potter. Luke is trained by yoda Jedi Master, while Harry received methods of instruction from Dummbledoor, revealing clues to destroying the Hocrux’s.  Luke is susceptible to the power of the dark side, when Hermione, Ron and Harry wore the Hocrux’s they were susceptible as well to it’s depressing and dark mood it would put you in.  When Ron became jealous and angry because of wearing the Hocrux, he left Harry and Hermione. This caused him to lose his way back, however he was able to hear Hermione some how, and came back. When Luke free falls down the shaft almost losing his life to Darth Vador, Lea hears his distress and he is also returned to safety.

Megamind and Young frankenstien

Megamind and Young Frankenstein

            In both of these films we have an inventor. Young Frankenstein creates the creature. At first he does not want to explore the idea, and then he becomes obsessed with achieving the goal, as his late relative did. Megamind creates tighten because he to becomes concerned with a problem of no advisory to compete against. Both Men are innovative and problem solvers. Megamind has never known love, but finds love with Roxanne. Young Frankenstein has a fiancé’ but truly finds love with his lab  assistant.  The Creature is created to be loved, and simply to achieve the task of bringing back dead matter. The creature is then given the capacity to think and speak clearly we see is just like Megamind he wants acceptance. Tighten is given a new body, and strength, he then decides to become the antagonist.  Both Creators realize they have good intentions. They begin to put their problem solving skills to use. In the end they are able to show everyone who did not believe in them that they could accomplish something good.

Catfish and Catch Me If You Can

Compare and Contrast for movies: Catfish/ Catch Me If You Can

            Catch Me If You Can is a biography of young Frank Jr. Abingale, who was included as part of the screenwriting. This film was directed by Steven Speilberg and was released in 2002. The cast includes; Carl played by Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken who plays Frank Abingale senior, Leonardo Dicaprio, who is Frank, Amy Adams who was Brenda, and Nathelie Baye, Franks mom. This film was set in 1963 New Rochelle, New York. It is a biography crime drama.

            Both Catfish and Catch Me If you can are based on true events. Catch Me If You Can had comical feel as well as Catfish.  I liked Catch Me if you can more, mostly because of the cast. Both movies had to do with traveling. In both movies, the Angela and Frank had concealed their identities, also both were exposed. You could consider Angela to be as much as a criminal as Frank. Both individuals lied, and seemed to lead troubled lives. The one thing Frank wanted was a family back, Angela wanted her old life back as well. Nev in comparison to Carl was that they were the ones’ who wanted to expose the truth. Carl became emotionally involved with Frank. Nev treated Angela like a human being; he also stayed friends with her on facebook. Angela lived out a sexual fantasy through “Megan”. Frank was promiscuous. Frank wanted to marry Brenda; he even lied to her family to accomplish it. Angela desired Nev, also lying and posing as her younger daughter. She revealed the truth because she was caught. We see Frank was caught as well, so he also revealed the truth to Brenda.

The Town and The Public Enemy

Movie Compare and Contrast of The Town and The Public Enemy

            In The Public Enemy, the actors are James Cagney, Leslie Feton, and Jean Harlow. This film was directed by William A. Wellman in 1931. This film depicted a young boy who grew up to be a gangster. In the begging of the film we see the young Tom Powers alongside with his good friend, starting mischief. Along with the film The Town, Doug and James have the same brotherly connection. We see that Tom Powers got along with his real brother well, until he became a gangster. After he is shot the relationship returns. in the Town Doug’s’ relationship with James also becomes damaged because he wants to leave the gang. It is interesting that both men in both movies damage their relationships by either leaving or participating in the gangs.

            The fighting and crimes scenes of The Public Enemy were hilarious, and not near as graphic and entertaining as The Town. The legend of Ben Afflecks character sticks in my mind more than the legend of Tom Powers. Ben Affleck’s character did something more meaningful and creative with his share of the money than Tom Power’s character. Ben Affleck finally gave back to the community instead of taking from it. He saw the good in Claire and knew she was a great judge of how to use it. She in turn gave the movie a twist  by donating the money to the boys and girls club, and under the name of Dougs’ mother. I really liked both of these films and I think one message conveyed by both is that crime started early both both main actors, and it ended in bloodshed.

The Social Network and Citizen Kane

Movie Compare and Contrast: The Social Network/ Citizen Kane

The Characters in this movie were played by actors: Orson Welles,  Joseph Cotton , Everrette Sloan, Dorothy Comingore, Ray Collins, Ruth Warrik, George Coulorous. It starred and was directed by Orson Welles in 1941, it is a period piece.  In Social Network and Citizen Kane both are entrepreneurs.  Social Network is different because it is a biography. I noticed that in Social Network many landmarks for success, were established by parties. In Citizen Kane you were shown all of his mistakes and accomplishments through newspaper headings. The Story of Social Network takes us through a journey to accomplish the website and flashbacks to court. We see The character develops himself and his idea, as his idea expands. In Citizen Kane We his story becomes portrayed through his journals, the daily inquier, and the stories of the people who knew him best. Both movies left you with a question. In Social Network we see Mark trying to reach out to Erica, as he waits the movie ends. In citizen Kane the Inquirer travel through a quest of individual accounts in search of Rosebud. We are shown a sled named rosebud, but there lies a question of  what the metaphor of it means to Kane.
